Schuh is Turning 30

Everyone Loves a Party

Back in 1981 a tiny shoe shop called Schuh opened on Edinburgh’s North Bridge with a simple philosophy; “To provide individual high fashion footwear, sold in a unique and exciting retail environment”. Fast forward 30 years and the philosophy remains the same however now that solitary shop has multiplied into 60 stores across the UK and Ireland; a website that receives over 2 million visitors a month; a bulging trophy cabinet full of awards for their general fabulousness and they are widely recognised as THE branded footwear authority on the high street.

As it is their 30th Birthday, 2011 will see Schuh embarking on their biggest campaign to date-after all a whole year is a long time to party. The campaign is called ’30 Years of Self Expression’ and celebrates all aspects of youth culture from 1981 to the present day-everything from the iconic music to the hair do’s (and don’ts).

No birthday can go without a party so they would like to invite you along to join them and celebrate here at the Jervis Shopping Centre store 4th and 5th of June. Birthdays tend to be all about presents but at Schuh they are not expecting to receive them they are giving them out! Every customer who buys over these two days will receive a gift-which varies from a specially branded Schuh iPad with 30 years of film and music on it, an exclusive iPod, free shoes for a year, presents from local businesses and much much more.

When you are all partied out you may fancy logging onto www.30yearsofschuh.co.uk The premise of the site is a timeline from 1981-2011 documenting social history, culture and art with all major events in news, film, fashion and music displayed. The timeline is interactive and customers are encouraged to add their memories, thoughts and pictures ultimately building up a clear picture of youth culture over the past 30 years. Adding to the site can be done via Facebook or by simply setting up a Schuh30 account.
